Windscreens over the past few years have evolved and it’s no longer the case of one windscreen per vehicle. In fact, some of the newer vehicles produced can have over 20 variations for one shape of vehicle. Jay & Rob’s Windscreens have compiled the following information to help you identify which windscreen you have, and if you’re still not sure we’ll be happy to help from our workshop in Bishop’s Stortford.
For vehicles with automatic lights or wipers, this generally looks similar to a camera lens from the outside and is normally around or built into the rear view mirror.
HEATED FRONT WINDSCREENS
Vehicles with heated windscreens have very feint lines visible from the top to the bottom of the screen, and an extra button normally next to the heated rear screen switch.
TOP TINT WINDSCREENS
These windscreens have a built in sun strip across the top which fades out around six inches down the screen. This strip can be blue, green, bronze, or a light grey but most windscreens now have a black edge.
LANE DEPARTURE ASSIST/CAMERA
A system which warns the driver when a white line is crossed without indicating. It makes either an audible sound or the seat vibrates to alarm the driver.
SOLAR REFLECTIVE WINDSCREENS
These types of windscreen almost look like they have a mirror coating and normally have a silvery purple colour to reduce heat absorption into the vehicle, generally combined with air-con.
HEAD UP DISPLAY SYSTEM
A system which projects information in the form of images onto the inside of the windscreen such as speed or directions. Also known as HUD.
